Hey Humans, Tommy here. I'm the founder of Sock Rocket and the guy who's been in charge of getting your sock of the month subscriptions packed and sent every month for the last 10 years. I'm here to tell you that after 10 years, I've decided to sunset our subscription program. We are no longer selling them, but if you're an active subscriber then for now you will continue to get them. Right now I am unsure exactly when the program will shut down completely, but I will be in touch with you directly. I'm genuinely sorry, I know so many of you love the monthly sock program, but please hear me out. FULL disclosure here;

10 years ago I started Sock Rocket as a sock of the month program. My wife Johanna and I packed and mailed socks in paper envelopes that we hand-drew rockets on for many months. Our friends signed up, and it was a fun little hobby. After a year or so, it started to get more serious. People we didn't know were signing up to get socks, and our monthly packing routine grew from a couple dozen to a couple hundred. We started designing more and more socks, we got branded mailers, we even asked my mom to come help pack!

We never looked back from there honestly. We grew and grew and grew until, at the height of the subscription program, we were packing and sending over 1200 packages every month. It was truly bonkers, and not at all what we had expected when we started out. Life changed though. We had kids, we moved several times, and the business got very busy. But once a month we went down to the basement warehouse after everyone was in bed and crushed subscriptions. Hundreds and hundreds of packages stuffed. Piles and piles of socks. We spent hours together packing and sending your socks - it was honestly some of the best quality time we got to spend as busy parents and entrepreneurs.

One thing led to another over the years, and Sock Rocket eventually became a full-blown retail and promotional company with 12 employees. These days we have hundreds of original designs for sale on our website, and we make custom socks for some of the largest brands in North America. We've really become so much more than a tiny sock of the month program, and the subscription program has taken a back seat to our thriving custom sock service and our robust retail shop.

I kept the subscription program going, and eventually passed the packing on to our fabulous warehouse staff. Then came the catalyst - Canada Post strikes (three of them in 12 months) changed everything. Suddenly our sock of the month program was completely haulted. Because the service relied fully on Canada Post, we had no way of getting subscriptions out to paying customers. We did our best to communicate, but the angry emails and phone call started to pile up (figuratively), as did the unsent packages (literally). When the strikes would end, we would get back to it and try to catch up, but Canada Post had become much less reliable and MUCH more expensive. It was a big double whammy, and coupled with the fact that the subscription had become more and more work over the years and the business had leaned hard into the custom and retail sides, I finally decided enough was enough.

I'm sad to shut this thing down, but it's just not as simple as it once was to bring it to the people in a reliable, affordable, and consistent way. I have spent so much time and effort building a reputable brand, and I refuse to provide a service that is anything but reliable, affordable, and consistent. And so... the sock of the month program is done, y'all. We'll be focussing on continuing to build our booming promotional sock service, and our super awesome original designs will ALWAYS be available in our Sock Shop and at markets and events across Canada. We aren't going anywhere.

Sock Rocket is busier than ever, and it's all thanks to YOU. I appreciate every single person who ever signed up for the subscription program. It means the world to me that you trusted me with your hard earned money, and I genuinely hope you loved receiving socks and donation slips from us every month. Sock Rocket has donated almost 1,000,000 pairs of socks over the last 10 years, and we're growing that number bigger and bigger every day.
